UAE, sometimes simply called Emirates, is a country in Western Asia at the southeast end of the Arabian Peninsula on the Persian Gulf, bordering Oman to the east and Saudi Arabia to the south and west, as well as sharing maritime borders with Qatar to the west and Iran to the north.
Citizens of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) nations do not require a visa, may enter using a National ID card, and may stay, work and travel in the Emirates indefinitely.
Citizens of the European Union (except Ireland and the United Kingdom), Andorra, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Monaco, Norway, San Marino, Seychelles, Switzerland, and Vatican City do not require a visa for stays of up to 90 days within 180 days.
Citizens of Australia, Brunei, Canada, China, Hong Kong, Ireland, Japan, Macau, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, United Kingdom, and the United States, in addition to persons holding British National (Overseas) passports, are listed for a visa on arrival valid for 30 days. On paper that sounds effortless — at the check-in counter it can be anything but. The boarding decision belongs to the airline, and staff who cannot verify your on-arrival eligibility can, and regularly do, refuse boarding rather than risk a carrier fine. If you choose to travel on an on-arrival basis, carry written confirmation of your eligibility from the airline or from UAE immigration. The safer route is a pre-arranged e-visa: your approval exists in writing before you fly, and there is nothing left to argue at the counter.
"Indian citizens holding a valid US visa or Green Card may qualify for a 14-day visa on arrival — yet this is exactly the case where airlines most often demand extra proof before letting a passenger board."
The US visa or Green Card must be valid for at least 6 months beyond the date of arrival, and the final decision is still made at the airport — first by the airline, then by the immigration officer. A pre-arranged Dubai visit visa costs a known amount, arrives in your inbox before you pack, and removes both of those conversations. That is why we recommend applying online in advance even when you technically qualify on arrival.
Citizens of most countries may enter the United Arab Emirates for up to 96 hours (4 days) on a transit visa obtained at the airport, provided the gap between flights exceeds 8 hours, the journey continues to a third destination, and a confirmed hotel booking is held. Here too, arranging the transit e-visa before departure spares you the airport queue after a long flight — and any dispute over whether your itinerary meets the rules.
